Splenda

I am allergic to Nutrasweet aka aspartame aka "the crap that will kill me dead."  That crap nearly killed me twice as a kid... because it took two times for the doctors to figure out what had sent me into anaphylactic shock.  Bees and Nutrasweet - both deadly for me.  I am so allergic to Nutrasweet that even kissing someone who has consumed it is off the table.  We don't keep it in the house.  My husband doesn't consume it at all and my BF - who lives a few states away and so we only get to visit on vacation - doesn't consume it for a few weeks before seeing me.

Saccharine, while safe for me to consume, just doesn't taste that good.  It's not my thing, though I don't object to consuming it if it is what is available.  Yes, I remember when Tab was pulled from the shelves and everyone swore it would give you cancer.  Sure, if you're a rat, and drank a garage full of the stuff.

Splenda/succralose, well now... that works for me.  It doesn't send me to the hospital, and I've been able to find quite a few things containing Splenda which don't leave me feeling like I just ate/drank something nasty.  I am a picky eater, I like what I like, and I will not eat anything I do NOT like (something hubby and the BF are hoping to cure me of as it relates to fishy foodstuff).

So this is going to be my log of Splenda-containing foods, the likes and dislikes.  Just a warning about the various "Splenda-containing foods" lists around the 'net, ones which claim to be comprehensive and accurate. Verify, verify, verify. I've found a ton of mistakes on these lists. It's also important to still check the calories and such... items like Hawaiin Punch Lite still count as 1 point because they're using some real juices, high fructose syrups, etc. So make sure you check labels for yourself.

Yes Please!!!

  • Arizona Sugar-Free Iced Tea w/Ginseng - I live on this stuff.  The water bottle mix-ins or the 2qt tubs, I drink these tea constantly.
  • Hershey's Sugar-Free Chocolate Syrup - Hubby is mixing this in with milk so as to meet his dairy requirements each day.  He won't drink just straight up white milk.  He is LOVING this stuff.  I've seen him drink more milk in the last few days than in the last year.

No Thanks!!!

  • Hunt's Snack Pack Chocolate Sugar-free Pudding - has a bad aftertaste, and honestly doesn't taste that great going in, either.
  • Various RC Cola products containing Splenda - we couldn't stomach ANY of these.  Not the fruit flavored ones, none of them.
